A Scandinavian, Kiln Dried product with a low moisture content and open cell structure makes Redwood an ideal species to pressure treat. When pressure treated, a 30-year warranty can be offered on the product. European Redwood is a very popular specie for timber cladding, this specie is also known as Scots Pine. European Redwood is a well known specie which is imported from Scandinavia.
European Redwood offers a striking natural warmth and distinct grain that provides an instant premium feel to any exterior. It’s a favorite for its superior stability and ease of treatment, ensuring a durable, long-lasting finish that stands up beautifully to the elements.

Davidson Timber typically offer European Redwood in A, or A+ Grade, a B Grade product is available for lower specification projects.
For its weight, the timber is strong and moderately hard, Redwood machines well, allowing a nice smooth finish.
Moderate.
This specie has natural preservatives which can have a corrosive effect on some unprotected metals, causing a black stain on the wood
Treatments can be applied to various cladding species to enhance or alter their colour or give them long term protection against the elements. Davidson Timber can provide a 30-year warranty against rot & fungal decay with Pressure Treatment (when installed out of ground contact). Pressure Treated timber requires little ongoing maintenance and is perfectly suited for use as an External Timber Cladding. Two treatment options are available, as standard the treatment is a clear copper-based preservative. The clear treatment option will allow the timber to naturally weather to a silver/grey over time. If there is a desire to retain an element of the original timber appearance, then the treatment can also be provided with a brown pigment, slowing that additional weathering process down.
Softwood timber called European Redwood originates from Scandinavia and Europe and stands out for its construction strength as well as durability in joinery and cladding purposes.
The durability and lightness of European Redwood paired with its workability allow for easy installation in cladding applications. European Redwood naturally resists decay but can receive treatment to enhance its weather resistance which ensures its long-term performance. The wood’s appealing grain pattern and its excellent absorption of stains and finishes enable it to adapt to multiple architectural designs.
European Redwood achieves moderate outdoor durability through proper treatment which allows it to function effectively for many years. European Redwood possesses some natural decay resistance but its weather resistance improves greatly when treated with stains, oils or pressure treatments.
Appropriate treatment and maintenance of European Redwood cladding ensures it remains intact for 20 to 30 years or more. Protective finishes and regular maintenance can prolong European Redwood’s lifespan while enhancing its resistance to weather conditions.
The versatile look of European Redwood along with its ability to accept finishes and its treated durability makes it appropriate for both modern and traditional homes.
European Redwood cladding requires regular cleaning along with protective treatments like stains or oils to improve its ability to withstand weather conditions. Maintaining the appearance and longevity of European Redwood cladding requires regular inspections followed by re-coating when necessary.
European Redwood achieves sustainability through its origin from well-managed forests alongside rapid growth and availability of certification options like FSC or PEFC which ensure responsible sourcing.
Preservatives and stains or pressure treatments are applied to European Redwood to improve its defenses against moisture and rot while preventing insect damage to boost its durability for outdoor applications.
The affordability and workability of European Redwood combined with its treatment receptiveness makes it an adaptable material for both construction and cladding. This material maintains an ideal combination of strength and durability with sustainable benefits and widespread availability.
European Redwood achieves eco-friendly status because it originates from sustainably managed forests while growing at a fast pace and is available with FSC or PEFC certification that confirms responsible sourcing.
